Azusa Banjo’s I Think I Turned My Childhood Friend Into a Girl has been confirmed for a TV anime. The manga is serialized in Ichijinsha’s web manga magazine comic POOL under the Japanese title Koisuru (Otome) no Tsukurikata. The announcement went live on June 22, 2026, with a commemorative illustration and comment from Banjo. A broadcast window, animation studio, main staff, voice cast, and streaming details have not yet been announced.

The series follows Kenshiro Mido, a high school student who loves cosmetics but keeps that interest private. After building his makeup skills on his own, Mido tries them on his childhood friend Hiura. The result changes how Hiura presents himself and opens a romantic comedy about cosmetics, appearance, and the way the two boys begin looking at each other after the makeover.

The anime reveal follows several years of reader support for the manga. The series first drew notice through SNS before moving into commercial serialization through comic POOL. It has reached 600,000 copies in circulation, including digital releases. It also placed fourth in AnimeJapan’s 2024 “Manga We Want to See Animated” ranking, where Banjo said she wanted to someday see Hiura moving and speaking in animation. Banjo marked the adaptation with a new illustration and said the anime lets her continue a theme she had long wanted to draw: an otokonoko heroine who loves the protagonist. The official Japanese announcement frames the project as a romantic comedy built around a cosmetics-loving boy and an otokonoko character.

The anime announcement also opened a new official X account for Koisuru (Otome) no Tsukurikata. The account will carry updates on the original manga as well as future details tied to the TV anime. In Japan, volumes 1 through 11 are available now, with volume 12 set for June 25, 2026 through Ichijinsha’s comic POOL label.

Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English under the title I Think I Turned My Childhood Friend Into a Girl. The English release currently runs through volume 10, with volume 11 scheduled for November 17, 2026. Further anime information is expected through the new official account.
