The live-action BL drama Sekigae Shitara, Douyara Ushiro no Otoko ga Ore no Koto Suki Rashii will begin airing on BS Fuji in Japan this August, with streaming plans, additional cast members, theme songs, a comic adaptation, and a sequel novel now confirmed.
The drama is based on Mashiro Ito’s BL novel of the same name, published through Starts Publishing’s BeLuck Bunko label. The original work won the top prize in Novema’s BL short story contest before being released as a book.
The story follows Hare Mayama, an ordinary and inexperienced high school student whose seat change leads to an unexpected confession. After a paper is passed to him from the desk behind him, Hare finds a message saying someone likes him. The sender turns out to be Kosei Asamiya, a popular classmate who has been holding back his feelings and is now sitting directly behind him.

Eito Konishi stars as Hare Mayama, while Gennosuke plays Kosei Asamiya. Two additional cast members have also been announced. Ken Hiramoto of DXTEEN will play Toma Sakaki, a classmate within the popular group who notices more than he lets on and helps move things forward. Hayate Iijima of SUPER★DRAGON will play Mitsuki Tsunekawada, a calmer student who quietly understands Hare and Kosei’s relationship and offers the right words at important moments.

The music lineup has also been confirmed. SUPER★DRAGON will perform the theme song “NPC,” while Kimino Virus will perform the opening song “Hakukei.” The opening song was written for the drama and is described as a youth love song connected to summer memories, distance, and feelings that remain difficult to reach.

Sekigae Shitara, Douyara Ushiro no Otoko ga Ore no Koto Suki Rashii will premiere on BS Fuji on August 7 at 25:00, which falls in the early hours of August 8 for viewers reading the late-night schedule. FOD will begin exclusive streaming earlier on August 5 at 25:30. TVer missed-episode streaming is scheduled to begin after the BS Fuji broadcast, starting August 7 at 25:30. Worldwide streaming is also planned, with details to be announced later.
The project is also expanding beyond the drama. A comic adaptation has been announced through BeLuckCOMICS, with Nanahara Koyagi handling the manga based on Mashiro Ito’s original story. A sequel novel, Sekigae Shitara, Douyara Ushiro no Otoko ga Ore no Koto Suki Rashii 2, will be released through BeLuck Bunko on August 20, with Ayukawa returning as illustrator.

That wider rollout makes the drama part of a larger push for the “Sekisuki” series. The original novel, the upcoming comic, the sequel volume, and the live-action series are all arriving around the same period, giving the title a stronger presence across BL publishing and live-action drama spaces.
Sekigae Shitara, Douyara Ushiro no Otoko ga Ore no Koto Suki Rashii is scheduled to stream first on FOD on August 5 before premiering on BS Fuji on August 7.
