Suu’s BL manga Kiss wa Sousa no Ato de is getting a live-action TV drama adaptation, with the series scheduled to begin airing on ABC TV in Japan this July.
The adaptation was announced through the drama’s official channels and J-Publishing’s special page for the series. According to J-Publishing, the drama will air on ABC TV in the Kansai region, with missed-episode streaming planned through TVer and ABEMA after broadcast. A teaser page is also live on TVer, where viewers can favorite the upcoming drama ahead of release.
Kiss wa Sousa no Ato de, also known in English-language fan spaces as Love Is Too Far Away, Kissing Is Too Close or Duty First, Kiss Later, is a workplace BL centered on two police officers whose constant friction begins to shift after a matchmaking proposal enters the story.
The original manga follows Takoi, a good-natured, unmarried detective in his forties who works in the criminal investigation division of the peaceful rural Yamanomichi Police Station. He is liked by locals and coworkers, but his relationship with Shiono, a younger officer from the community safety division, is much less smooth. The two clash constantly, and their situation becomes even harder to ignore because they also live next to each other in the police dorms. When Takoi receives a matchmaking offer, the balance between them begins to change.
The first volume of the manga was published by J-Publishing under its arca comics label in September 2024. A sequel volume, Kiss wa Sousa no Ato de Again, followed in May 2026, continuing the relationship between Shiono and Takoi after the two have become involved. J-Publishing’s page describes the original work as a long-seller across bookstores, while the sequel brings in distance, jealousy, and a new handsome figure connected to Shiono.
Original creator Suu also shared a comment through J-Publishing’s drama page. Rather than asking the staff to simply reproduce the manga as-is, Suu said she wanted the adaptation to become the kind of drama she would fall for even if she encountered it without knowing the manga first. That comment makes the adaptation’s direction especially interesting, since it suggests viewers should expect the TV drama to stand as its own version of the story rather than a purely panel-by-panel recreation.
