Chinese indie studio 小青蛙妙妙制作组 has released an English version of 咒影 Curse of the Shadow, its BL horror visual novel for PC via Steam.The game first launched on Steam on March 20, 2026, with English support added through a later update on May 11. The official Steam page now lists both Simplified Chinese and English support for interface text and subtitles.
Curse of the Shadow follows Xu Mingjing, a young man caught inside a supernatural curse after dark figures begin appearing in the photos he takes. The story sends Xu and two close friends into a horror mystery built around fear, avoidance and the need to confront what has been following him. Although the game is tagged and described as a BL-themed horror visual novel, the official Chinese listing warns that BL is not the main focus. The story puts supernatural horror first, with Boys’ Love elements worked into the character relationships.
The Steam listing describes the game as having around 100,000 characters of story text, nearly 40 CGs and a playtime of about two to four hours. It includes two romanceable characters, six bad endings and two happy endings, with an epilogue chapter following each happy ending. The game also includes adult content warnings for death, blood, supernatural horror, suicide, self-harm and extreme violence.
Curse of the Shadow also connects to the developer’s earlier game 品玉庵异谈 PinYuAn Tales. According to the Steam listing, the two games share the same world but take place on different timelines, with the two protagonists from PinYuAn Tales appearing in Curse of the Shadow as cameo characters. The developer notes that players do not need to play the earlier game first to understand this one. PinYuAn Tales doesn’t seem to have BL but does mention “bromance tendencies.”
Production credits on the official page list 青蛙梨 for scenario, programming, UI, art and video, while 阿猹 is credited for character design and art. The developer also links to a Bilibili account under 青蛙伯伯 for player feedback.
