Ayano Yamane’s long-running fantasy BL returns to the goods spotlight as one of the titles featured in the latest Chara × Pairnui plush lineup.
Chara Editorial Dept. has revealed the plush designs for the third wave of its Chara × Pairnui collaboration, with orders scheduled to open on July 1 at 6:00 p.m. JST.
The new lineup is part of Chara’s 30th anniversary project and brings several Chara titles into Pairnui’s paired-plush format. Pairnui is a plush brand from Origoo built around the idea of two characters displayed together, making it an especially natural fit for Boys’ Love works where the central relationship is part of the visual appeal.

For longtime BL readers, the title that stands out most in the new wave is Crimson Spell, Ayano Yamane’s fantasy BL series about Prince Vald, a royal cursed by a red magic sword, and Havi, the sorcerer who travels with him in search of a way to break the curse.
Crimson Spell is not just another catalog title returning through merchandise. It is one of Chara Comics’ major long-running fantasy BL works, with its first volume released in Japan in 2005 and its final volume released in 2021. Chara marked the series’ ending with a special edition of volume seven that included a mini artbook, while the later digital artbook release collected color illustrations and author comments to commemorate the completion of the series.

That 16-year publication history is part of why this Pairnui release feels notable. Crimson Spell belongs to a period of BL where fantasy settings, elaborate costumes, beautiful men, curses, magic, and dramatic romantic tension could sit directly beside comedy and explicit romance. It also reflects Yamane’s strengths as an artist: decorative character design, expressive body language, long-haired fantasy leads, and a polished visual style that made her work recognizable across both Japanese and English-language BL fandom.
Yamane is also widely known to English-language readers through works such as Finder, but Crimson Spell has always occupied its own space in her catalog. Where Finder revolved around modern crime, danger, and underworld tension, Crimson Spell leans into fantasy adventure. Its central image is immediately readable even to someone seeing the series for the first time: a cursed prince, a mysterious sorcerer, and a journey where magic and desire are tangled together.
That makes the new plush release more than a small anniversary item. For fans who followed the manga across years of serialization, through Japanese releases, English editions, drama CDs, and the final-volume artbook, Crimson Spell has the weight of a completed BL fantasy series with a long memory behind it. The Pairnui format turns that history into something that is more substantial than an acrylic figure.
The Chara × Pairnui Wave 3 announcement also shows other Chara titles in the lineup, including Boukunryu wo Kainarase, Hana Furu Ouji no Konrei, and Mainichi Seiten!. Full ordering details should be checked through the official Chara and Pairnui channels once listings open.
Orders for Chara × Pairnui Wave 3 are scheduled to begin on July 1 at 6:00 p.m. JST, with Pairnui listing the order window as running through July 15. Fans interested in Crimson Spell should watch the official Pairnui shop and Chara’s social accounts for final product pages, price details, and purchase conditions.
